Assassin's Creed III is a beautiful, exhilarating and treacherous new game. It has a power-hungry main character, a story of the American Revolutionary War, and crafting materials that have to be unlocked by completing missions. The map of the game is more than one hundred times larger than that of Assassin's Creed II. There are more animals in the forest with different species of animals to hunt for food and craft materials. In this third installment Connor can befriend animals such as bears and cougars who will help him fight his enemies during missions or free roam exploration. Combat is a bit more dynamic than other Assassin's Creed games. The battle system has a cool down mechanic that allows Connor to chain together attacks from different directions, from the ground or from a horse, to stab or slash an enemy. The combat is fluid and polished. Connor has a special ability that marks enemies, making them easier to find and assassinate for 100 points. Although it can be easy to end up with a large amount of points, there are several ways to earn more points during missions. 1 point is awarded for reviving an ally about three times or using the Eagle Vision ability which shows the area's civilians and guards plus other information such as threats and points of interest. There are also a dozen achievements that can be obtained over the course of the game. Assassin's Creed II featured a weather system in which there were numerous weather conditions such as rain or snow. In Assassin's Creed III there is no weather, only day and night time cycles. There is also no rain and yet fog has been introduced. The absence of rain has been explained by creative director Jean Guesdon via an interview with Gamekings at E3 2011: "there is an explanation we gave we told we just wanted to keep it open-ended and not force this decision". Assassin's Creed III features crafting in which you gather items for different items such as food and wood to craft things such as arrows and tools. One issue is that it is very hard to find the required materials for crafting. There are several challenges that can be completed to earn more items. Assassin's Creed III also features a new gameplay mechanic called "The Frontier". The Frontier is where all of Connor's story missions take place. It is the region of the game in which Connor will spend his time, hunting animals and exploring. There are trees with war shields hanging from them, enemy patrols with sentries and patrols, as well as wilderness camps from which soldiers will attack you on sight if you do not have a war shield or have been spotted by one of their sentries. There are also various treasures to be found by looting corpses or even ransacking supply boxes. There are several side missions which can be completed to earn bonuses such as more points for hunting animals. A new game plus feature allows one to replay the game with all previous achievements and upgrades carried over. There is also a feature called 'Rapport' which is based on friends lists on Xbox Live. It will help the player locate potential victims, if they have been saved or met in the Frontier. It can also be used for tracking people down after they have been tracked down by the Eagle Vision ability. 8eeb4e9f32 51
